IF YOU'VE EVER TRIED TO EXPLAIN HOW YOUR BRAIN FEELS AND RAN OUT OF WORDS. THIS BOOK DOES IT FOR YOU.
For everyone who has battled something they couldn't put into words.
For those who handed their phone to a friend and said "this, this is how I feel".
For the therapists who needed a bridge.
For the families who wanted to understand. For the people who thought nobody got it.
THIS BOOK GETS IT
sHAWN cOSS DIDN'T SET OUT TO WRITE A BOOK.
HE SPENT 11 YEARS AS AN RN WATCHING AND CARING FOR PEOPLE IN THEIR WORST MOMENTS. PEOPLE WHO COULDN'T EXPLAIN WHAT WAS HAPPENING INSIDE THEIR OWN HEADS. PEOPLE WHO HAD RUN OUT OF WORDS AND DROWNING IN SILENCE WHILE THE REST OF THE WORLD TOLD THEM TO JUST FEEL BETTER AND THAT IT WAS "ALL IN YOUR HEAD"
SO HE PICKED UP A PEN AND DREW THEIR DARKNESS.
WHAT CAME OUT WASN'T SUNSHINE. IT WASN'T THE SOFT PALATABLE MENTAL HEALTH CONTENT THAT MAKES EVERYONE FEEL COMFORTABLE. IT WAS DARK. IT WAS HONEST. IT WAS ART NOBODY WANTED TO LOOK AT. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY PEOPLE COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN.
OVER 150,000 COPIES LATER, THERAPISTS ARE USING IT IN SESSIONS AROUND THE WORLD. PYSCHOLOGY PROGRAMS HAVE IT IN THEIR TEXTBOOKS. AND EVERYDAY, SOMEONE MESSAGES TO SAY THE SAME THING:
"I FINALLY FELT LIKE SOMEONE UNDERSTOOD.
THAT'S WHY THIS BOOK EXISTS. NOT TO FIX YOU. NOT TO LECTURE YOU. JUST TO LOOK YOU DEAD IN THE EYES AND SAY, YEAH, WE SEE IT TOO.
"mental health is vitally important, often overlooked and needs to be further de-stigmatised"
- Antony Star, The Boys

A LOOK INSIDE
In the previous editions I had written very brief descriptions on each behavior along with a few sentences on my inspiration behind it. What I didn't realize was that it left alot to be desired for those who were learning about the behaviors for the first time. Now, with many therapists using it in their practice I wanted to have a more in depth look into each illness covered but in an easy to digest way, so it can be used in the professional setting as well.
